Go Red For Women celebrates the energy, passion and power we have as women to band together to wipe out heart disease. Too many women die each year because they are unaware of this vital statistic: One woman in three suffers in silence, and almost one woman dies every minute of this largely preventable disease.
We are honored to serve as Co-Chairs for the Colorado Springs 2011 Go Red For Women Education Day & Luncheon which will be held on October 28, 2011, at the Antler’s Hilton. We feel privileged to be working with such a dynamic group of volunteers as well as generous corporate sponsors and the medical community, all of whom are passionate about the fight against heart disease and raising awareness here in Colorado Springs.
We are inspired by our local survivors. Their willingness to share their stories, educate and motivate others to take action is big motivation.
And, we invite you to join us in this important movement. Together by speaking up we can bring a voice to this silent killer and help save lives. We can listen to what our hearts are telling us, talk to our doctors, wear red and spread the word to our family, friends and community about making the right choices for optimal heart health.
We hope you will choose to Go Red with us!

Message From Nancy Brown
Dear Friends,
Welcome to the Colorado Springs Go Red For Women Luncheon! We’re delighted you want to learn how you can advance health, stop heart disease and save women’s lives. That’s what Go Red For Women is all about.
Heart disease isn’t just a man’s problem. It’s a woman’s problem, too. In fact, it’s women’s No. 1 killer. And, tragically, far too few women realize their risk from this often-preventable disease. We need to raise women’s awareness, to protect our mothers, daughters, sisters, friends and other loved ones. And ourselves.
You can help, starting today. Here’s how:
First, take charge of your own heart health. Visit your doctor. Know your numbers (learn more at goredforwomen.org). You can improve your blood pressure, cholesterol and other numbers by making lifestyle changes. You’ll be healthier and look and feel better, too.
Second, speak up. Help spread the word that heart disease is women’s No. 1 killer. You can make a difference. Choose to share what you learn today with your family and members of your community.
Third and last, consider making a contribution. Your donation will help fund local and national Go Red activities to support awareness, research, education and community programs to benefit women.
Please don’t leave today without committing to make a difference. Join the Go Red For Women movement — women need your help. There’s so much to do, and so much at stake. Only one in five women believes that heart disease is her greatest health threat. Reducing risk and preventing heart disease starts with education — and you.
By working together, we can help women and their families live longer, stronger lives. Thank you for your generous support.
Warm regards,
Nancy Brown

I love the mission of the event – it’s not just about raising money (although that IS valuable for research), but it’s about promoting healthy living for women. It’s more than just a feel-good event, you leave with something concrete, something you can DO about it, starting today. You can change things in your own life and you can seek to influence those around you with healthier living as well.
I had no idea how serious heart disease was for women when I first started volunteering – I have learned A LOT! I have a brother-in-law and nephew who both struggle with mild heart conditions, so I was drawn to the AHA anyway, but learning about all the ways more serious conditions and heart disease can be prevented is the reason I have stayed involved.
Some might think “a bunch of women decked out in red dresses, no thanks!” But honestly this group of women, because they are working toward a common cause and are all motivated to make a difference, is truly a joy to work with. The energy around the event is phenomenal because it is FUN WITH A PURPOSE. I love working with a fairly small group of women to make the event happen and then to show up the morning of the event to see the place filled to the brim with women dressed in red seeking to learn more about healthy living (and to get some great silent auction items too, of course!)
I don’t have the time to volunteer for this event, but I do MAKE the time. I can’t explain it, but year after year I find myself drawn back to help make this event happen and to make it happen with flair and success. I hope to see you there! |
