Mikki Gates

At the age of 36, Mikki Gates had a stroke at work. An echocardiogram determined that she had a tumor in her heart, which caused the stroke. A few days after open-heart surgery to remove the tumor, she had a pacemaker implanted to keep her heart beating regularly. Her family helped her recover every step of the way and within a few weeks, she could breathe again, go back to work and even travel the world. Two years later, she is working on building her strength to climb Pikes Peak on the anniversary of her stroke.
